The church

The foundation of the Protestant church of Nadesch was built between 1250 and 1300, but at the beginning it probably existed as a Romanesque basilica, and was rebuilt into a church only about 170 years ago by the citizens of Nadesch. The church has two bells. The small bell of the church tower, which was cast in 1470, contains the oldest German inscription on a bell in Transylvania (“helf got maria berat”). The larger bell was cast in 1923. In 1800 the classicist altar was built, with a wooden crucifix surrounded by painted and Corinthian columns and a cornice from which two angels look down.

Its valuable church organ dates back to 1807 and was made by Samuel Joseph Maetz, who built more than 35 organs at that time, 20 of which are still preserved in their original condition. This organ, just like the church, needs restoration in order to continue to preserve it. To make this possible and to draw attention to the incident in June 2017, the Förderverein zur Renovierung und Erhaltung der evangelischen Kirche Nadesch e.V. was founded.
